Ronald MEVS

Rétrospective - Haïti L'éternelle Oubliée

The Ronald MEVS collection is very dear to me and the gallery. I began acquiring his work many years ago. It was more of an intuitive impulse. I thought they represented him and Haitian art well- layered, complex, diverse, unpredictable, and endearing. “The diversity of his work encompasses a clever cocktail of his Haitian, Taino, and African cultures." As I became more measured, more intentional, and more focused about the gallery and collecting, we’ve acquired more and more of his work.

Citizen of the world, he welcomed artists from all backgrounds in his Jacmel Atelier. This exclusive collection is a partnership between him and the gallery. It was curated by him for the gallery from his personal stock. He was supposed to be here, present with us, celebrating 2025 - the year where Haiti is being recognized worldwide.

"I refuse the title of artist.

I consider myself an enlightened craftsman."

This exhibition is a tribute to the timeless memory of a free artist whose vision continues to inspire.

"L’enfant terrible de la peinture Haitienne.”

Gone too soon. Hélas, definitely, gone too soon.
